EA and Sony on Tuesday responded to criticisms that the PS3 lacks in smoothness and artificial intelligence when compared to the Xbox 360.

On Tuesday, USA Today published a story claiming that Madden NFL 08 on Xbox 360 is superior to its PS3 counterpart due to the better 60 frames per second visuals of the former compared to just 30 frames per second on the latter.

Electronics Arts defending the PS3 version saying:

"In the case of the next-generation consoles, many publishers have been developing titles for the Xbox 360 for over 3 1/2 years while everyone who publishes now for the PlayStation 3 with the exception of Sony has been developing for the PlayStation 3 for only a little over one full year. The differences in the overall knowledge of the hardware is vastly different for both consoles and...it is very difficult to get it right the first time."

It should be noted that EA did release Madden NFL 07 last year on the PS3 with 08 being the second, not first game to grace to system.

In related news, Sony's director of corporate communication Dave Karraker defended the PS3's ability to produce advanced artificial intelligence despite recent Ubisoft allegations of the contrary.

"PS3 can more than handle AI, as you will see with Heavenly Sword, which has hundreds of on-screen enemies with different AI routines at one time thanks to the power of Cell," Karraker said in a reply on the official PlayStation blog.
