India-Pakistan Counter-Strike Gaming match Announced by Indiagames

Indiagames has announced the first ever India-Pakistan match, and no we are not talking about Cricket.

Indiagames will be hosting a PC gaming match which will see the five-member Pakistani Counterstrike Team called “Havok” playing against the Indian team that wins the WCG 2007 India Counter Strike Finals that are scheduled to be held on September 10 this year in Mumbai.
According to Vishal Gondal - CEO, Indiagames Ltd., “The youth of today are getting more involved in this new phenomenon of e-Sports. We believe sports often succeed over Politics and Diplomacy in improving relations between countries and there is no reason why we should not go beyond Cricket and Hockey into the e-Sports arena.”

“We are very excited and see this as an important milestone in the history of Indo-Pak cultural ties. Events like this will help the growth of computer gaming, internet and broadband in both the countries,” he added.

Interestingly, Havok, the Pakistani Counter Strike team has participated in over 50 Counter Strike tournaments arranged by Neomatrix Gaming Network in Lahore, Pakistan from 2003 till date.

And winners they have always emerged, for in the ESWC 2007 in Paris, France, the team won the pool matches against India

Here is what Ahmed Mamoor Amimi - CEO, Playdium.Net, Strategic Partner of World Cyber Games, Pakistan, had to say: “I would like to see Pakistan and India competition on this e-sports arena and I am sure it will create more space for love and harmony between both countries. I would also like to invite the Indian team next year for our WCG 2008 National Final event, in Pakistan.”

Selecting Havoc to play against the Indian team is a great choice. Holding such a match will improve relations between the countries, because like true sportsmen, they too will play in all good spirits and harmony. Secondly, placing the best teams in the countries against each other, will surely lend a competitive edge to the competition.
